About the Fund

India: Building Capacity of Women Micro Entrepreneurs in the Informal Sector through ICT India: "Building Capacity of Women Micro Entrepreneurs in the Informal Sector through ICT"
Established by the Government of Japan in 1995, the UNDP/Japan Women in Development Fund (JWIDF) supports UNDP's efforts to promote gender equality and the empowerment of women in developing countries. Its purpose is to build women's capacities through innovative project initiatives. As of September 2006, there are 72 UNDP/JWIDF supported projects (51 country-based, three regional, and 18 global projects).

Focus Areas

In light of UNDP’s new priorities and international norms such as globalisation, the UNDP/JWIDF has redefined itself as a fund for strategic investments with particular emphasis on initiatives that encourage innovation, partnerships, dialogue and capacity development.

UNDP and Japan have pooled their expertise and experiences through the UNDP/JWIDF to build capacities from the community to the global level.

Gender and MDGs
Amount funded by JWIDF: $286,667

This global project funded by multi-donors, including JWIDF, aims to build knowledge and experience in engendering MDG processes through five pilot countries: Morocco, Cambodia, Kenya, Peru and Kyrgyzstan.

The Gender Roster is an online database of gender experts and specialised consultants who have either been recommended by UN staff or have references from other reliable development partners, and who are willing to be considered for long- and short-term assignments.
