Public Private Partnership for the Urban Environment (PPPUE)
UNDP’s Capacity Development Group, through the
Public Private Partnerships for the Urban Environment (PPPUE)
programme, has recently been strengthened by a contribution from the Global Cooperation Framework. These funds will be used to support a Flexible Response Mechanism (FRM) to respond to PPP capacity development needs identified by UNDP COs and their partners. The FRM funding is intended for quick disbursement to COs and their partners for a variety of activities to develop capacity on PPPs and advocate for, support and facilitate pro-poor local-level PPPs. Typical activities to be supported include: organisation of internal and external PPP training, holding regional workshops on PPP, developing local capacity development tools and other knowledge management activities related to local level PPP for urban services delivery.
PPPUE works in support of pro-poor tripartite partnerships for basic urban services provision and delivers demand driven support to COs through two key mechanisms: the Innovative Partnership Grant (IPG) and the Global Learning Network (GLN).
- The IPG is a competitive grant. Calls for proposals are open to all UNDP COs, municipalities, civil society groups, private sector associations and academia. Projects support pro-poor tripartite partnerships initiatives up to 100,000 USD, and focus on basic services such as water supply, sanitation, energy services and solid waste management in small and medium sized cities across the developing world.
- The GLN provides links between the experience PPPUE gains in the field and analysis and dissemination of knowledge resources based on that experience. The GLN has developed into a strong global Community of Practice on pro-poor tripartite partnerships including experts from inside and outside UNDP.
UNDP Country Offices interested in PPP and wishing to find out more about any of the PPPUE activities are welcome to contact the PPPUE Programme Management Unit regional focal point for Africa at
