Bangladesh – Strengthening Democracy
In early 2008, the military caretaker government scheduled what it promised would be a free and fair elections for December of that year. The Electoral Commission had only 11 months to register the over 80 million potential voters using a new, fail-safe form of electronic voter registration. With so large a task and so little time, the Commission turned to UNDP for assistance. View Video
Albania – Clearing Mines
More than a decade after the 1999 Kosovo conflict left behind a trail of mines and unexploded ordnances along Albania’s northern border, the country has been declared officially mine-free thanks to a joint UNDP and Government demining programme that also provides assistance to mine victims. Brazil – Eliminating CFCs
As a result of UNDP’s efforts in Brazil —in partnership with the Government and the private sector – more than 10,000 metric tonnes of ozone-depleting substances have been completely phased out, putting Brazil three years ahead of the Montreal Protocol’s schedule. View Video
