The MDGs are:

  • Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • Achieve universal Primary education
  • Promote gender equality and empower women
  • Reduce child mortality
  • Improve maternal health
  • Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases
  • Develop a global partnership for development
  • Create more employment opportunities to reduce unemployment and under-employment.
  • Transition informal enterprises into small and medium sized enterprises providing them the opportunity to contribute to broader economic growth.
  • Expand choices in education and training opportunities since local private education reaches only a small proportion of the population and public coverage is often insufficient.
  • Provide more opportunities for women via small and medium size enterprise development to own their own businesses, adapt work to fit their schedules and responsibilities, while being responsive to local markets and needs.
  • Expand provision of basic services – water and sanitation, healthcare – which is currently expensive but uneven in quality.
  • Offer more medical care information and alternatives specializing in women’s health.
  • Address low availability and high costs of medical supplies, vaccines etc. which make prevention, treatment, and cure difficult.
    Involves local private sector players in the provision of local development services.
