PSD’s entry point in the UN programming
cycle
- The common country assessment are increasingly concentrated
on issues regarding the realization of the MDGs
- Domestic PSD issues are relevant in two contexts:
- As a root cause and possible solution space
for MDG 1
- As a part of the global partnership in MDG 8,
or to help achieve other goals such as 6 and 7
- At this step, the focus is on determining whether
domestic PSD potentially should be short-listed as
a challenge and priority of UN development co-operation

Key questions
- Is economic growth driven by few sectors and commodity
groups?
- Is unemployment a major issue?
- Do people have access to basic goods and services?
Are there missing markets?
- Is the economy facing specific constraints to growth
that involve private sector players?
- Are there broader development issues that could
potentially be addressed through domestic private
sector development?
