There are a number of sources of information on the factors (“pillars of entrepreneurship”) affecting domestic PSD growth

  • Two surveys, one by the World Bank and one joint effort by EBRD-World Bank, are essential diagnostic tools when surveying the private sector environment.

  • To facilitate global business, the United States Department of Commerce has a very useful compendium of international market research online.

  • Indicators are a simple and valuable tool to diagnose problems and provide a valuable metric with which to quantify progress in private sector development
    • Governance Research Indicator Country Snapshot (GRICS)
    • For 200 countries, the World Bank has aggregated data for six dimensions of governance: Voice and Accountability, Political Stability and Absence of Violence, Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, and Control of Corruption.
    • The International Labor Organization (ILO) has an invaluable publication, Key Indicators of the Labor Market (KILM), the statistics of which are also available in an interactive software package.
