Mapping
the business ecosystem: tools and resources |
- Mapping exercises quantify the economy sector by sector and
industry by industry, and identify how these contribute to development
indicators over time. Note that not all the questions set out in
the steps and the analytical tools can be immediately answered from
information in these mappings; some of the information will have to be
obtained through more detailed country-level data gathering, including
through interviews or surveys (including those conducted by government
and other agencies)
- Information on the private
sector:
- The World Bank’s World Business Environment Survey (WBES) (http://info.worldbank.org/governance/wbes)
is a very useful source of data on the investment climate and business
environment as shaped by domestic economic policy; governance;
regulatory, infrastructural and financial impediments, as well as
assessments of public service quality
- Governance:
- Transparency International carries out a number of surveys on
corruption, both at a global and national level, accessible from its
homepage, at http://www.transparency.org/
- The Governance Research Indicator Country Snapshot (GRICS)
provides aggregated data for six dimensions of governance: Voice
and Accountability, Political Stability and Absence of Violence,
Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, and Control
of Corruption, for 209 countries, at http://www.worldbank.org/wbi/governance/govdata2002/
