International OrganizationCities Alliance and Cities Without Slums The Cities Alliance is a global coalition of cities and their development partners designed to achieve the promise of well managed cities launched by the World Bank and the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements (Habitat). It aims to bring together a network of cities that make information about their environment available on the Internet in an easy-to-understand, well-structured, and internationally comparable format. Global Urban Observatory (GUO) The GUO is a system of capacity building programmes and resources to help Governments, local authorities and their partner groups monitor progress in the implementation of the Habitat Agenda and to expand the base of knowledge for better urban policy. It is comprised of the Best Practices and Local Leadership Programme (BLP) and the Urban Indicators Programme. BLP is a global network of institutions dedicated to the exchange of successful solutions for sustainable development. Money Matters Initiative MMI is a forum composed of private fund managers, development experts and public
policy makers. Its objective to assess what can be done in order to assist pre-emerging markets in strengthening their national capacities to manage private capital and to search for feasible ways and means of making private finance work for sustainable human development. Poverty and Environment Initiative The United Nations Development Programme and the European Commission are engaged in a joint initiative on poverty and the environment aimed at identifying concrete policy recommendations and practical measures that address the environmental concerns of the poor in developing countries. Public-Private Partnerships in Sewage Management Forum The GPA News Forum distributes information and stimulates discussions related to the implementation of the Global Programme of Action. The bulk of DFID's assistance is concentrated on the poorest countries in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) CIDA supports sustainable development activities in order to reduce poverty and to contribute to a more secure, equitable and prosperous world. Their objective: to work with developing countries and countries in transition to develop the tools to eventually meet their own needs. The site provides an extensive listing of links to international development-related sites and documents on the Internet. Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) The goal of Swedish development cooperation is to raise the standard of living of poorer groups of people. SIDA works to create conditions conducive to change and to socially, economically and environmentally sustainable development. United States Agency for International Development (USAID) USAID is an independent federal government agency that conducts foreign assistance and
humanitarian aid. USAID extends assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty, and engaging in democratic reforms. International Finance InstitutionsThe African Development Bank, one of the premier financial development institutions of Africa, is dedicated to combating poverty and improving the lives of people of the continent and engaged in the task of mobilising resources towards the economic and social progress of its Regional Member Countries. ADB's principal goal is to reduce poverty. Its related objectives are to foster economic growth, support human development, improve the status of women, and protect the environment. Clean Air Initiative in Latin American Cities The Clean Air Initiative seeks to improve air quality in Latin American Cities by bringing together the efforts of the public and private sectors, the NGO community, research and academic institutions, government agencies and international institutions. Development Bank of Southern Africa The DBSA's purpose is to address socio-economic imbalances and help improve the quality of life of the people of Southern Africa. Environment and Natural Resources Unit The objective of the Environment and Natural Resources Group of The World Bank Institute (WBIEN) is to promote sustainable development in its social, economic, and environmental dimensions, by facilitating a learning dialogue and disseminating innovative approaches to sustainable development, primarily among policy-makers and opinion leaders. Yale University - School of Forestry and Environmental Studies The Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies promotes the long-term health of the biosphere and the sustainability of its natural resources by providing new leadership and new knowledge. The School teaches, carries out scientific research and policy analysis, develops management tools and technologies, and communicates with the public. Asia Infrastructure and Development Alliance Asia Infrastructure Development Alliance (AIDA) is non-profit organization designed to facilitate dialogue between the public and private sectors and multilateral and intergovernmental agencies, and to foster understanding of what is required to improve investment opportunities in regional infrastructure development in Asia and the Pacific. Business Partners for Development (BPD) BPD is a project-based initiative that studies, supports and promotes strategic examples of partnerships involving business, civil society and government working together for the development of communities around the world. International Private Water Association The International Private Water Association (IPWA) is a non-profit corporation, established to promote opportunities for private sector participation in water utilities worldwide. Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative The development of democratic and effective government at sub-national levels remains one of the central tasks of the transition. The sharing of expertise between countries can contribute significantly to the reform process in the region. Partnerships and the Poor in Water and Sanitation project seeks to
determine workable processes for delivering water supply and sanitation
services to the poor through PPP arrangements. Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) Infrastructure Action Program (IAP) A multi-donor program to help eliminate poverty and achieve sustainable development through private sector involvement in infrastructure, PPIAF provides technical assistance to achieve these goals. The IAP is an advisory services unit of the World Bank dedicated to facilitating private participation in infrastructure, primarily through the preparation of country frameworks. SMART-Cities.net promotes urban sustainable development by providing a platform for information exchange and interaction between Asian Cities and European environmental solution providers. Swiss Centre for Development Cooperation in Technology and Management (SKAT) SKAT is a Swiss consulting firm working internationally in the areas of Water and Sanitation, Architecture and Building, Transport Infrastructure, and Urban Development. United States-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP) The United States-Asia Environmental Partnership (US-AEP) is a public-private initiative that promotes environmentally sustainable development in Asia. US-AEP is jointly implemented by several U.S. government agencies, under the leadership of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
