- Joint Forestry-UN course spans globe

The United Nations Development Program and the Forestry School have joined forces this semester in a high-tech course that collects, analyzes and shares methods for using public-private partnerships to improve the delivery of water, waste and energy services in developing countries. UNDP Newsfront, 14 November 2000 Jointly sponsored by UNDP and Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft e.V. (CDG) on behalf of the German Government, the conference on Public-Private Partnerships for Urban Environmental Services, held on 26-27 October, drew 125 participants to explore challenges and recipes for success for private sector participation in urban environmental services in Africa, Asia and Latin America. - Mayors Recognise Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) as One Solution to Urban Environmental Problems (

In an unprecedented move, mayors, public officials and private sector representatives from 25 countries spanning four continents agreed on the need to facilitate private sector involvement in the development of urban environmental services in cities in the developing world. One hundred and twenty participants met at a two-day conference in Berlin on October 26-27 to discuss possibilities for PPP to finance water and waste projects.

38kb / 13kb) 1 February 2001 On January 8, 2001, the UNDP's Public-Private Partnerships for the Urban Environment (PPPUE) launched its first Distance Learning Course. The Internet-based Course is an opportunity for practitioners, students and researchers to exchange knowledge on public-private partnerships. So far, 19 universities and institutions around the world have committed to join the Distance Learning Course and more are expected to sign on.
