UN Coordination
The wealth and knowledge of the UN system needs to be fully mobilized
to assist developing countries in preparing national development strategies
designed to meet the MDGs.
The UN Experts Group that was formed in 2002 to advise the UN Millennium Project has been reconstituted to serve as a forum for technical dialogue among UN organizations and international financial institutions on the operational aspects of countries’ development strategies. A UN Development Group Policy Network, hosted by UNDP, has also been established to provide advisory services and on-the-ground assistance to UN programme countries. The Policy Network provides an opportunity for people to exchange knowledge and to make the UN system’s resources – including its human resources - more easily available to assist countries in the development and implementation of MDG-based national development strategies. Seven countries—four in Africa and three in Asia— have been initially selected to act as pilot countries. The Policy Network is comprised of 1-2 senior representatives from each UNDG agency who provide technical assistance to countries when requested. |
