Intellectual property

Photo: Dennis Yeandle/UNDPUNDP focuses on two issues when it comes to intellectual property: access to HIV and AIDS medicines and protecting biodiversity.
On the first, UNDP helps strengthen developing countries’ capacity to sustainably procure affordable HIV and AIDS drugs within the rules and clauses of multilateral and other trade agreements.
On biodiversity, UNDP helps developing countries to set up ways of managing plant variety rights, traditional knowledge and natural resources in line with fair trade. Such mechanisms enable the countries involved to better maintain agricultural biodiversity and food security.
