Environment for the MDGs:
Investment Priorities to Achieve Poverty Reduction

Purpose and Focus

The policy dialogue featured Nobel Laureates, high-level policymakers, dignitaries, private industry representatives, and practitioners in an afternoon discussion on the importance of environment to meeting the Millennium Development Goals. The main objectives of the policy dialogue were to:

  1. Present and debate key findings on the economic importance of environment to poverty reduction and pro-poor growth, and identify priority areas for investment to achieve MDG-7 and contribute to the broader MDG agenda;
  2. Identify any critical gaps/unresolved issues that require future attention;
  3. Provide a forum to announce and launch new initiatives and major reports produced by PEP members and others, and to generate media interest.
