Teen People Hot List: Sophia Bush

Sophia BushTeenpeople.com is a leading website for teenagers in the U.S. and around the world who follow celebrity issues. They average 10-12 million page views per month and 750,000 unique visitors a month. The article that ran included PEP messaging and the www.undp.org website address, exposing the UN to teenagers. Between a recent rise in teen philanthropy, community service and overall awareness as covered in a recent New York Times feature article and the heightened awareness that Live8 generated about poverty, young audiences are starting to hear the words "global poverty" and its related issues more and more from many fronts.

Teenpeople.com covered Sophia Bush's attendance at the PEP event and included it in their "Editor's Hot Picks" section. Salient points include:

  • She's involved in the fight against poverty.
  • The project's goal is to speed up poverty reduction while protecting our environment.
  • Did you know that 1.2 billion people live on less than $1 dollar a day?
  • Please follow her lead, go to undp.org.

Laura Morgan says: I am not just picking the girl because she's had a tough week. Though she has -- breaking up with The Chad (as we like to call him at TEEN PEOPLE) could not have been easy. I'm picking her because SHE IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL SUPERFICIAL STARLET. Aside from not being a trashy club-going tart, having style I envy, and smarts (she's a fellow USC grad), Sophia is a political activist. She's starting a non-profit and she's involved in the fight against poverty. I ran into her at an event for the Millennium Development Project. Say what, you ask? The project's goal is to speed up poverty reduction while protecting our environment. And Sophia believes you're never too young to get involved. Did you know that 1.2 billion people live on less than $1 dollar a day? So please follow her lead, go to undp.org. Who knows -- maybe in 10 years we'll be voting for Sophia Bush for office -- it's just too bad The Chad won't be First Man.
