Purpose and Focus
 The head of state dinner was a major event on the Summit calendar that signaled growing political support for a scaled-up role for environment in achieving the MDGs. The specific objectives of the dinner were to:
- Highlight and energize the emerging coalition around environment and the MDGs in order to build further support and commitment to action among key stakeholders including governments, NGOs, donors, academics and researchers;
- Acknowledge political leaders who recognize and have made a tangible commitment to investing in the environment in order to achieve the MDGs;
- Provide a high profile forum for major announcements by governments, PEP partners and coalition members;
- Emphasize the key messages from the PEP analytical work and the afternoon policy dialogue.
