UNDP and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI)
The
Central American Bank for Economic Integration aims at promoting
economic and social integration and development in Central American
countries. In this respect, it pursues the improvement of the quality
of life in the region through support of regional programmes to facilitate
the integration of countries in the region in the world economy and
among themselves and poverty reduction. The areas of focus for the Central
American Bank for Economic Integration include the following:
- Poverty: Employment creation, capacity building,
MDGs,
- Globalization: Favourable investment climate, regional
competitiveness, strategic partnerships with key stakeholders, negotiations,
implementation and sustainability of agreements for economic openness.
- Integration: Physical, economic, trade and finaicial
integration in the region, regional financial market, harmonization
of regulatory frameworks and adoption of best practices in strategic
sectors, regional programmes for environmental protection.
UNDP and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration signed a
Framework Agreement on 9 March 2001, with the aim of working together
in the area of sustainable human development through projects to support
efforts in the areas of poverty reduction, balanced development, economic
integration, natural resources. The agreement establishes a coordination
mechanism as well as operational arrangements that would guide joint activities.
