Indigenous peoples - PartnersThe United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues UNDP has been integrally involved in the work of the Permanent Forum
on Indigenous Issues, since its inception in July 2000. UNDP has taken
the lead on many issues raised by the Permanent Forum, including the
disaggregation and usage of data on indigenous populations and the prinicple
of free, prior and informed consent vis-a-vis development issues. UNDP
is a contributor to the Voluntary Fund of the Permanent Forum and a
key actor of the UN Inter-Agency Support Group (IASG) on indigenous
issues. Click here to access the Permanent Forum webpage The IASG is a forum for inter-agency cooperation on indigenous peoples' issues in relation to the Permanent Forum and engages in a working relationship among the participating organizations to support the objectives of the Permanent Forum and analyze recommendations addressed to the United Nations system to facilitate comprehensive and coordinated responses at national, regional and international levels. The IASG is composed of representative focal points, as identified by heads of United Nations system organizations and bodies, whose work is relevant to indigenous issues. Members have broad knowledge and experience of activities concerning indigenous peoples' issues within their organizations.
