GSB in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Since the launch in May 2006, the GSB Bosnia and Herzegovina programme has engaged local and foreign companies with a view to support direct employment in company operations or within the local supply chain. The GSB programme, which is co-funded by the Austrian Development Agency, is active in the following sectors: recycling, medicinal herbs, manufacturing and finance. 

The GSB Broker, Meliha Kozaric Fanning, is responsible for identifying pro-poor investment opportunities, developing innovative business models, brokering partnerships between key stakeholders, and marketing projects to both local and international investors.

The local GSB Steering Committee is comprised of the following members: the Foreign Investor Council, ADA, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA), the Foreign Trade Chamber and UNDP.

Active Projects

Medicinal herbs value chain
Lead Company: Pharmamed
The project intends to improve herb supply-chain practices (from herb collection to herb cultivation) and further develop herb processing by facilitating access to export markets (given the small size of the Bosnian market). By strengthening export opportunities for herb processors, the project aims to create higher absorption capacity for the employment of additional herb collectors. Download project brief

Waste Separation at Municipal Level - Introduction of a New Business Model
Lead Company: Industrijski Otpad
Waste collection and recycling is a new and fast-developing sector in Bosnia. It is present throughout the country – though primarily in the semi-formal sector with little added value activities. The objective of this project is to improve waste collection and separation, benefiting the environment and community. It will improve waste management and introduce at source waste separation, increasing direct and indirect employment, benefiting some of the poorest members of society. Download project brief
