Seizing Opportunities and Expanding Horizons: The Inspiring Journey of Nigeria Jubilee Fellows

The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) is a youth empowerment initiative that has been making waves since its launch on August 31, 2021. The Programme has created a platform that connects talented graduates with local job opportunities that enables them to apply their expertise and acquire practical skills. The NJFP has proven to be a transformative experience for young graduates like Comfort Adeola Olatunji, Olayinka Daniels, David Aderenle, and Samson Abah. From embracing new fields of expertise and skill sets to encountering diverse cultures and expanding professional networks, these Fellows share their captivating experiences during the time as Fellows.

 

Comfort Adeola Olatunji - A Journey Beyond Expectations: 

Comfort Adeola Olatunji, a science graduate, embarked on an unexpected journey when she joined the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme. Matched with Alliance Française de Lagos, aFrench education and training institute, Comfort was assigned to the accounting department a new field for her. Overwhelmed with this new roleComfort received support and mentorship from her supportive supervisor who guided her through the intricacies of the role. With determination and a thirst for learning, she successfully learned the new skill and excelled at it. Comfort during her time at Alliance Française reconciled over 1000 transactions and exceeded her targets. The NJFP broadened her horizons, not only in accounting but also in language skills and cultural experiences.

Olayinka Daniels - From Aspirations to Reality:

For Olayinka Daniels, the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme came as a ray of hope while she was searching for a job. Matched with West Star Associates Limited, she joined the Marketing and Communications department. Coming to the NJFP, Olayinka had photography and graphic design skills that proved to be valuable in her role. Her positive experience and successful journey are attributed to the supportive environment at West Starinclusion of work-life balance, and friendly colleagues that made her journey at West Star an incredibly rewarding one. Olayinka plans to apply the skills she has acquired to pursue her passion for Public Relations to make a positive impact in her career. Watch as she narrates her experience 

 

 

David Aderenle - Nurturing Professional Growth:

David Aderenle, a Finance graduate, was captivated by the NJFP's emphasis on knowledge and experience-sharing. After being matched with Nokia, David was elated to work in the Finance department, aligning with his field of study. At Nokia, he gained valuable insights into how a multinational organization operates. Interacting with professionals from different departments not only enriched his learning experience but made him hone his skills. The supportive atmosphere and the continuous care from his colleagues and mentors made David feel like an integral part of the team. Equipped with newfound knowledge, he plans to apply for roles in larger companies and utilize his experiences to forge a successful career path.

 

 

Samson Abah - Embracing Cultural Diversity and Personal Growth:

Samson Abah, a Fellow matched with Alliance Française de Lagos, found himself immersed in a French cultural organization, which sparked his passion for working with Non-Governmental Organizations. Although initially challenged by the language barrier, Samson's determination led him to enroll in French classes in order for him to excel in his new role. The opportunity to interact with diverse individuals, both Nigerian and international, has been a highlight of his Fellowship journey. Samson feels grateful for the exposure to a different culture and language, which has expanded his horizons and opened new doors to unique experiences.

 

 

 

The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programmea youth empowerment partnership initiative between the Federal Government of Nigeria implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with support from the European Union, has undoubtedly had a profound impact on the lives and careers of Fellows matched with various Host Organisations across the country. From stepping out of their comfort zones to embracing new roles and opportunities, these Fellows have exemplified resilience and growth. Through the NJFP, they have not only acquired practical skills and knowledge but also formed lasting connections and expanded their professional horizons.
