Working with the private sector

UNDP and the Netherlands are developing partnerships with business in UNDP's focus areas, including supporting countries in their engagement of the business sector in dialogues on national development and policy issues, and engaging business directly in project activities. The Secretary General's Global Compact, which asks businesses to embrace and act upon nine universal principles in the areas of human rights, labor rights and environment, provides a value-based platform for UNDP's engagement with business at the country level: UNDP and the Netherlands are currently piloting country practical initiatives that bring government, civil society and business together to discuss how business can contribute to local development priorities. Other joint initiatives include a $600,000 funding partnership agreement for the “UNDP-Shell Forest Conservation Project” in the Ayubia National Park, which is in the North of Pakistan.
