OverviewThe United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS) was established in 1999 with the aim of promoting human security through the protection and empowerment of people and communities threatened in their livelihood, survival and dignity. Since October 2007, UNTFHS country-level Joint Programmes (JP), for which the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is designated as the Administrative Agent (AA), have been administered by the UNDP Multi-Donor Trust (MDTF) Office. This arrangement has been formalized through the signing of a Letter of Agreement between the United Nations and the UNDP MDTF Office. The UNTFHS finances projects carried out by organizations in the UN system, and when appropriate, in partnership with non-UN entities, to advance the operational impact of the human security concept. As with other trust funds administered by the UNDP’s MDTF Office, UN agencies wishing to receive funding for a UNTFHS-funded JP for which UNDP is the AA are required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the UNDP MDTF Office. The UNTFHS places priority on promoting multi-sectoral and inter-agency integration based on the comparative advantage of the applying organizations and through their collaboration. Projects are distributed globally, with priority given to countries and regions where the insecurities of people are most critical and pervasive, such as the least developed countries (LDC's) and countries in conflict. Further information about the UN Trust Fund for Human Security, including a complete list of projects support by the UNTFHS and application information and guidelines (in English, French and Spanish), is available on: http://ochaonline.un.org/humansecurity For specific queries related to the UNTFHS, please go to contacts.
