HIV in terms of the nutritional status of children affected is also a challenge that will be faced, as well as the nutritional problems related to vulnerable groups and refugees. MDG-F support interventions using synergy and coordination of relevant inter-sectoral policies and approaches.
A Request for Proposals (RfP) by the MDG-F thematic window for Children, Food Security and Nutrition was launched on 14 August 2008. The RfP closed on 5 November 2008. Of the 57 eligible UN Country Teams, 48 submitted a proposal amounting to some $343 million.
The proposals submitted to the window were reviewed by the Technical Sub Committee for Children, Food Security and Nutrition. The Committee was convened by Werner Schultink, Chief Nutrition Section of the Programme Division UNICEF New York. It includes representatives of FAO, IFAD, WFP, and WHO as well as three independent experts and two experts nominated by the Government of Spain.
The Technical Sub Committee for Children, Food Security and Nutrition assessed 24 proposals as suitable for support by the MDG-F. The recommendations of the TSC were reviewed by the Fund’s Steering Committee at its consultations in February 2009 which approved the 24 Concept Notes with combined indicative budgets of $134.5 million ( total budget of the proposals in their original submission was around $194 million). UN Country Teams are preparing the detailed Joint Programme documents which will be submitted the 5th may 2009.
