Anthony Kennedy, Associate Justice, United States Supreme Court

Justice Anthony McLeod Kennedy has been the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court since 1988. A social moderate and economic conservative, Justice Kennedy has represented the deciding vote on many constitutional issues. The most prominent cases of his career were plurality opinion in case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey (1992), which re-affirmed the Roe v. Wade decision recognizing the right to abortion and cases like Roper v. Simmons (2005).

Justice Kennedy has joined with Court majorities in decisions favoring states' rights and capital punishment and invalidating federal and state affirmative action programs. In Kelo v. New London (2005), he joined four Justices in supporting the local government's right to take property for private economic development through eminent domain.
