UNDP supports the design and implementation
of sustainable development programs according to countries’ demands
and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Plan of Implementation
adopted at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg
(2002) serve as framework for measuring actual achievements. The program
is assisting the countries in financial policy for sustainable development,
reduction of greenhouse emissions and adaptation to climate change,
biodiversity conservation, risk management, and giving the poor, remote
and disadvantaged groups access to affordable and renewable energy.
UNDP has been supporting capacity building in the following
areas: Climate change and clean development
mechanism; financial mechanisms for the environment;
natural disasters and climate change; knowledge
management.
