HuRiTalk: The Human Rights Policy Network

Human Rights Talk (HuRiTALK) is a UN-wide network managed by UNDP on behalf of the Secretary General's Action 2 Reform Programme, a global programme designed to equip UN interagency country teams to work with Member States, at their request, to bolster their national human rights promotion and protection systems. Members are sought from all UN agencies, in particular UN Country Teams. Government and civil society practitioners may also join. A key knowledge sharing and capacity building tool, HuRiTALK contributes to and complements efforts to establish a system-wide, centralized support for human rights capacity-building at country level drawing upon the human rights expertise of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the development and humanitarian expertise of United Nations operational agencies, so that the nexus between democracy, development and respect for all human rights can be realized.

HuRiTALK is moderated by Emillie Filmer-Wilson at the UNDP Oslo Governance Centre, the global thematic facility on Governance within the Democratic Governance Group of the Bureau for Development Policy. A small team of Human Rights Advisers takes leadership in guiding the network in the selection of issues for focused discussion by the network.

HuRiTALK offers the following inter-linked services:

  • E-Discussions: A knowledge sharing forum for substantive discussions that provide a forum for raising global concerns.
  • Queries: HuRiTALK posts queries from members for specific information and experiences. This is a virtual bulletin board for information sharing and networking for members across the globe.
  • Information : Members share information on events, new initiatives, good practices, publications, workshops, resource materials/tools and much more.
