The annual GEF Project Implementation Review (PIR) complements
the regular monitoring and evaluation procedures employed by the GEF implementing
agencies during project implementation. The PIR covers a subset of the portfolios
of each implementing agency. Individual project information is collected according
to the PIR selection criteria for all full and medium-sized projects that have
been under implementation for a minimum of one year. The PIR exercise has a threefold
purpose:
| (a) |
to ensure accountability for the use of resources; |
| (b) |
to provide a clear basis for decision-making; and |
| (c) |
to learn and disseminate practical lessons gathered from
our field experience that can guide future interventions. |
UNDP-GEF Project Implementation Review
The UNDP-GEF PIRs are compiled into annual reports and
are provided below. Each annual report contains an overview section that examines
the status and performance of the UNDP-GEF portfolio as a whole and by focal area:
biodiversity, climate change, international waters, and ozone depletion. (The
newly approved focal areas of persistent organic pollutants and land degradation
will be included in future PIR exercises.)
GEF Project Performance Report
On the basis of the reports received from the three GEF
implementing agencies, the GEF M&E unit prepares a consolidated inter-agency
Project
Performance Report on the entire GEF portfolio. |
