Medium sized project (MSP) grants (for which <$1,000,000
is requested from the GEF) are awarded in accordance with GEF guidelines
as well as the relevant Convention. Proponents of MSP projects may
find it useful to submit first an MSP concept paper to UNDP. A concept
paper should provide enough substantive information for UNDP-GEF
to determine whether the project concept is eligible for funding
under the GEF.
If preparatory assistance is needed to prepare
the brief, a preparatory development facility (PDF) block A grant
should be requested (see Project
Development Facility). The proponent prepares the MSP brief,
which needs approval from the GEF Council.
Hints
1. |
Proponents of MSP proposals should initially
contact the relevant UNDP country office and UNDP-GEF Regional
Coordinator (see Contact
Us). |
2. |
The contents of a PDF A proposal are similar
to what is needed for a concept paper, but with additional information
related to PDF A activities and indicating the correlation with
the UNDP programme for the given country. |
3. |
An MSP proposal can be submitted at any time
and does not need to be reviewed by the GEF
Scientific & Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) or by the
GEF Council at one of the regular GEF Council meetings. |
The GEF Secretariat also provides specific guidelines
for the preparation of MSP proposals and general guidelines at the
following sites:

Sized Project Guidelines

Templates
The use of the formats in the templates below
assists project proponents and UNDP-GEF to ensure that all eligibility
requirements are met, and facilitates the review of the submission
by the GEF Secretariat.
The templates offer more detailed information
on the requirements for preparing MSP proposals and give the format
to be used. In order to put an MSP into effect, UNDP prepares a
legal document to complement the MSP brief proposal below. Please

Us for assistance.
