The Global Environment Facility team of the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP-GEF) is headquartered in New
York City, New York (U.S.A.), and has Regional Co-ordination Units
located in various regions of the world to best respond to the needs
of the countries and communities we serve.
The UNDP-GEF Directorate in New York oversees
all policy and operational decisions related to the functioning
of the unit. In addition, the UNDP-GEF is charged with managing
two corporate GEF programmes, namely, the Small
Grants Programme (SGP) and the Country
Dialogue Workshops (CDW). The May 2003 GEF Council approved
the GEF
National Consultative Dialogue Initiative. This new corporate
Initiative will replace the CDW and focus on the next phase of multi-stakeholder
dialogue between the GEF and countries.
A group of specialized personnel (principal technical
advisers, regional managers, and other staff) coordinate with our
staff located in the Regional Co-ordination Units to manage all
operational aspects of the unit. Currently, there are six such units
located in Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Slovak Republic (Bratislava),
Lebanon (Beirut), Mexico (Mexico City), Senegal (Dakar) and South
Africa (Pretoria). The regional team leaders, regional co-ordinators
and other staff in these regions work with headquarters and the
various countries, governments, civil
society, non-governmental organizations, and other organizations
in their regions.
