Monitoring & Evaluation

“Not everything that can be counted counts and not everything that counts can be counted”
Albert Einstein

Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) are important management tasks in the cycle of continuous improvement. The overall purpose is to undertake appropriate measurement and assessment of performance in order to more effectively manage the achievement of results. Results-oriented monitoring and evaluation can enhance learning, ensure informed decision-making and support transparency and accountability.

UNDP-GEF participates in UNDP and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) corporate-level results management activities, supports the establishment of results oriented M&E systems in projects, and oversees the annual monitoring of the performance and results of UNDP-GEF projects. An independent UNDP-GEF evaluation officer based in the UNDP Evaluation Office supports GEF project mid-term and final evaluations.
