Availability of Funds
The GEF manages three adaptation
funds initially totalling US$ 200 million. These are:
-
Strategic Priority on Adaptation (SPA): US$ 50 million
approx.
-
Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF): US$ 90 million approx.
-
Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF): US$ 60 million approx.
A fourth fund, the Adaptation Fund will be finalised through an
adaptation levy of approximately 2% from the Clean Development Mechanism.
Please note that the amounts in the above funds are indicative
only. The GEF Trust Fund (SPA) is replenished every four years,
while the three 'new' funds may be replenished on an ongoing basis.
The LDCF and SPA have been operational since 2001 and 2004, respectively,
and the SCCF since October 2005.
The figure below shows projected adaptation funding over
2007-2010, however projections are highly uncertain.
Replenishment of the funds depends on ongoing negotiations
with donors.
