DFID gives UNDP best rating
for organizational effectiveness

UNDP was awarded top scores in an assessment of the organizational effectiveness of 23 multilateral organizations carried out in March 2005 by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).

DFID’s scorecard analysis (see tables below) rated organizations on corporate governance, corporate strategy, resource management, operational management, quality assurance, staff management, monitoring evaluation and lesson learning, and reporting along three dimensions: internal, country level and partnerships.

UNDP scored 96 percent on internal performance, 98 percent on country level results, and 98 percent on partnerships. It achieved an overall average of 94 percent on a results-based-management system for assessing organizational effectiveness. UNDP was cited, along with the UN Population Fund, as one of two UN development agencies that have done well after the wider UN reform process.

The DFID evaluation covered development organizations; multilateral development banks such as the World Bank and regional financial institutions; UN specialized agencies such as the World Health Organization and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization; humanitarian agencies such as the UN High Commission for Refugees and the International Committee for the Red Cross; and other multilaterals such as the European Commission

According to DFID, the assessment will help it make better decisions in public service agreements, institutional strategies and financing.

Details of the assessment, including Overall Summary of the Report; UNDP Baseline Assessment; UNDP Scorecard (powerpoint), can be found on the UNDP intranet.
