UNDP: COUNTRY COOPERATION FRAMEWORKS AND RELATED MATTERS

EXTENSION OF THE FIFTH COUNTRY PROGRAMME FOR TURKEY

Note by the Administrator

1. The fifth country programme for Turkey was approved by the Executive Board at its second regular session 1995, for the programme period January 1995 to December 1999.

2. The component programmes and projects of the current country programme have been extended beyond December 1999 in line with the management decision taken by the Administrator to extend the TRAC allocations (approved for the period January 1997 to December 1999) through December 2000. As national development priorities have not changed, the component programmes and projects of the country programme remain relevant. The continued relevance of the country programme has been confirmed through consultations with the Government and other development partners.

3. Furthermore, the extension of the country programme through December 2000 will enable the first country cooperation framework to be harmonized with the programme cycles of other United Nations Development Group (UNDG) agencies. In addition, the extension will provide sufficient lead time for a comprehensive review of the country programme in 2000 so that the lessons learned and results attained can be taken into account in the preparation of the first CCF. The new CCF is expected to be submitted to the Executive Board in 2001.

4. Against this background, the Administrator wishes to inform the Executive Board that he has approved the extension of the fifth country programme for Turkey for a period of one year, beginning on 1 January 2000.
