The UN: working “as One” in Brussels

The Director of the UNDP Office in Brussels is also the UN Secretary-General’s representative in Brussels.

The UN/UNDP Director supports the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General and UN Secretariat in fostering the UN’s partnership with European Union (EU) institutions. He also coordinates more than 20 Brussels-based UN agencies, funds and programmes in the field of humanitarian and development assistance.

Since these agencies, funds and programmes are intensifying their presence in Brussels, internal coherence and coordination have become crucial. In this context, the Director of the UN/UNDP Office in Brussels promotes the "Delivering as One" approach in joint advocacy and outreach activities, as well as on operational matters.

UNDP staff in Brussels also contribute to the "Delivering as One” effort by: (i) facilitating the response of the UN in Brussels to EC draft financial instruments, evaluations, or development strategies (AIDCO evaluation and other policy papers); (ii) helping strengthen the visibility of the UN’s collective presence in Brussels through publications and outreach activities;. and (iii) providing support for different departments at UN Headquarters.
