Eligibility

To be eligible, initiatives must be located within the equatorial belt (23.5° latitude above and below the equator) and in a developing country.

Nominations may be submitted for:

  • Indigenous and other local communities.

  • Community-based organizations

  • Local non-governmental organizations

  • Local entrepreneurial initiatives

  • UNESCO's World Heritage sites and other biological reserves

Individuals and groups are eligible to receive the Equator Initiative Award provided that they are submitting a specific initiative or project that meets the intent of the Equator Initiative and the selection criteria.
