University of Manitoba Equator Prize Project Research

Under the research guidance of Professor Fikret Berkes, the University of Manitoba is undertaking research into community-based resource management. Supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), graduate students from the Natural Resources Institute of the University of Manitoba are examining a selection of Equator Initiative cases, drawn mostly from among the Equator Prize 2002 and 2004 finalists. Their research efforts include field visits ranging from three months to a year. The projects use a common research framework and emphasize two areas: community self-organization and institutional linkages.

A complete and up-to-date list of University of Manitoba's Equator Initiative-related research projects and PDFs of project reports can be found here. The University of Manitoba has also established a comprehensive list of suggested readings in community-based resource management to support Equator Initiative research and international partners.
