Community leaders “drop” their knowledge On September 9, 2006 five grassroots leaders representing communities that have been awarded the Equator Prize joined 112 activists, writers, artists, philosophers and scientists in a unprecedented roundtable discussion. Ana Lucy, Benson, Donato Gladman, Hari, each gave their answers to 100 questions on some of the most pressing social issues of our times. The roundtable, called The Table of Free Voices, was organized by a Dropping Knowledge – “a global initiative to support the free and open sharing of knowledge among the people of the world.” The Table of Free Voices was a launching activity to initiate a broader and longer term sharing of knowledge, ideas and questions through their website. The website provides a space for anyone to share their ideas, and it will soon hold an archive of The Table of Free Voices. All participants in the roundtable answered the 100 questions simultaneously and each one of their answers was captured on video, which will form the Internet archive. The event created an environment where all were eager to network and share experiences with one another. Relationships were forged with other well-known activists and scholars, and all participants were able to express their deep-felt opinions on the state of the world. The event provided one more way of giving value in a global space to the knowledge that grassroots leaders bring from their communities. Watch the videos of Share your own answers.
