The Barcelona Forum 2004 is a five-month long event that takes place in Barcelona, Spain, from 9 May to 26 September 2004 and which will focus the world’s attention on issues of sustainability and cultural harmony. The Forum is designed to bring three main themes to life: cultural diversity, sustainable development and conditions for peace. Excitingly, the Equator Initiative is a partner to this global venture and is heartened by the fact that the Forum has made a strong commitment to sustainability and the defense of biodiversity by promoting the conservation and wise use of natural resources. The Forum also highlights and promotes the need for a social, economic and institutional framework that is socially responsible and committed to equitable and technologically-sustainable economic growth.

The Equator Initiative is proud to participate in two key elements of the Barcelona Forum event. Over the course of the five-months, the Equator Initiative will host a spectacular Showcase Exhibition on biodiversity and conservation and lead an international Dialogue on conservation and poverty. Full details, including reports and photos, from both of these exciting events can be reached by clicking on the respective links.

It is estimated that the Barcelona Forum 2004 will draw up to 5 million visitors. Many of these visitors will pass by or through the Equator Initiative’s Showcase Exhibition, which features the work of Equator Prize finalists and winners from both the 2002 and 2004 prizes.
