At the May 22 UNDP Press Conference announcing the 2006 Equator Prize winners, Shompole Community Trust from Kenya was recognized for its outstanding achievements in the area of ecological tourism.

Speakers at the press conference included (L-R) Dr. Charles McNeill, Environment Team Manager, Environment and Energy Group, Bureau for Development Policy, Mr. Yusuf-Shani Ole Petenya , Shompole Community Trust, Kenya Equator Prize winner; John Scott, Policy Officer for Traditional Knowledge, Convention on Biological Diversity; and Cassandra Waldon, Chief of External Communications, UNDP.

Representing his prize-winning community at the press conference, Mr.
Yusuf- Shani Ole Petenya expressed his gratitude and joy at receiving
the Equator Prize.
