Regional Centres and SURFsRegional Centres: Europe
and the CIS - Regional Centre, Bratislava SURFs: Arab States About the Regional Centres and SURFsThe Regional Centres and SURFs are geared to engage in global advocacy and analysis to generate knowledge, alliance building and promotion of enabling frameworks on key issues, policy advice and support for national capacity building, knowledge networking and sharing of good practices. One of the important services provided by the Regional Centres and SURFs is referrals, responding to requests from country office and headquarters programme staff with advice or information. Referrals are based on queries from Country Offices/Headquarters units via phone, fax or email to their respective Regional Centre or SURF unit, a Knowledge Network, or BDP New York. Queries can be sent from any person in a Country Office or Headquarters programme unit. They can be about anything related to UNDP programme policy or implementation. A query can be a request for a consultant, a comparative experience, a funding sponsor, a policy document, an example of a template, a training opportunity, etc. Queries are fielded by tapping into the network members, UN Agencies, Regional Commissions and professional networks, and by obtaining information available from UNDP knowledge bases. Knowledge Network "Facilitators" are located within substantive groups at Headquarters, where they have access to the staff involved with the Global Programme (including the Human Development Report) working on new policies, concepts and innovations for furthering UNDP development priorities. Besides being used to answer queries, information obtained through Regional Centre and SURF referrals is placed in the corporate Knowledge Base - currently under development - where it will be accessible to UNDP staff globally. |
