'Energy
for Development' Conference Netherlands,
12 - 14 December 2004
The Government of the Netherlands hosted the World Conference on 'Energy
for Development' in close collaboration with UNDP, the World Bank and the
World Business Council on Sustainable Development. The overall objective
of the conference was to put energy more firmly on the development agenda.
The conference discussed action-oriented suggestions how to address the
energy-poverty challenges. Plenary sessions, panel discussions, and side
events provided ample opportunities for UNDP to highlight the critical
importance of mainstreaming energy issues into planning processes, such
as Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers.
