Recent international conferences bringing energy to the forefront of development debate:

  'Energy for Development' Conference
Netherlands, 12 - 14 December 2004
The Government of the Netherlands hosted the World Conference on 'Energy for Development' in close collaboration with UNDP, the World Bank and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development. The overall objective of the conference was to put energy more firmly on the development agenda. The conference discussed action-oriented suggestions how to address the energy-poverty challenges. Plenary sessions, panel discussions, and side events provided ample opportunities for UNDP to highlight the critical importance of mainstreaming energy issues into planning processes, such as Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers.

  International Conference for Renewable Energies
Bonn, 1 - 4 June 2004
UNDP joined 3600 participants in Bonn for the Renewables 2004 conference, hosted by the Government of Germany. The conference charted the way towards an expansion of renewable energies worldwide, responding to the call of the Johannesburg summit for the global development of renewable energy.
