Productive Uses of Renewable Energy

"Productive Uses of Renewable Energy"
May 9-11, 2005, Bangkok, Thailand

This meeting was a joint initiative of UNDP Sustainable Energy Team, UNDP-GEF, and UNDP's Regional Energy Programme for Poverty Reduction (Asia-Pacific) with the support of Regional Centre in Bangkok (RCB), UNDP.  The meeting was organized in cooperation with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand, May 9-11, 2005.

The meeting discussed in detail how to develop markets for renewable energy technologies (RETs) in off-grid areas focusing on productive uses of RETs as the entry point for market development. The meeting will centered around two topics, which are regarded as key components for successful market development; (a) use of RETs by SMEs e.g. in the agriculture sector, and their access to (micro) financing mechanisms and other instruments such as support for business planning, and (b) institutional users of RETs in the health and education sector and their access to RETs including finance and maintenance.
