Clean, affordable energy is an imperative for sustainable development, but market forces alone cannot be expected to deliver energy services that are sustainable and meet the needs of the most vulnerable communities. Cooperation and partnerships are needed across sectors and regions to enable the use of energy as a means for meeting development targets - an idea embodied in the eighth Millennium Development Goal, to develop a global partnership for development. This page features some examples of how UNDP is fostering partnerships to promote energy as a vehicle for development.
