to Energy and MDGs
Energy services
can provide cross-cutting influences on both social and economic
development, thereby influencing a nation’s ability to achieving
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). For the 2 billion people in
the world who have no regular access to reliable energy services,
electrification or the availability of clean cooking fuels could
reduce poverty, improve health conditions, and increase standards
of living.
For an overview
of the direct and indirect relationships between energy and the MDGs,
please refer to Annex
1 of the World Energy Assessment – Overview:
2004 Update. In addition, the publications and documents listed
below offer a broad introduction of the linkages between energy services
and development.
