UN System
a) The United Nations
The United Nations is an organization of sovereign nations. It provides the machinery to help find solutions to international problems or disputes, and to deal with pressing concerns that face people everywhere. The UN website provides extensive information about its work, offering databases, publications and documents for public access in all UN languages.

b) The United Nations Development Programme
UNDP's overarching mission is to help countries build national capacity to achieve sustainable, human development, giving top priority to eliminating poverty and building equity. It's website contains information about it's mission, focus areas, publications and statistics.

c) The United Nations Secretariat to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
UNCCD's website gives access to the most important documents on the CCD, updates on conferences and meetings, and provides public information on desertification.

d) United Nations Environment Programme
UNEP's mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnerships in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing and enabling nations and people to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. The Drylands Ecosystem and Desertification Control Programme Activity Center - (DEDC/PAC) features success stories, publications, and the Desertification Control Information System.

e) Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO)
FAO's mandate is to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations. It is the largest autonomous agency within the United Nations system. Its web page about desertification includes documents, factfiles, photofiles and film clips.

f) Global Mechanism (GM) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
As part of the solution to the problem of desertification, a Global Mechanism (GM) was established under the authority of the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the UNCCD.
The GM acts as a hub for a dynamic network of partners, committed to focusing their energies, resources and knowledge on combating desertification.
The GM not only mobilises financial resources, but also channels their flow, thereby guaranteeing increased financial effectiveness and efficiency and ensuring a holistic and equitable approach to resource distribution.

g) UNDP International Poverty Centre
The International Poverty Centre (IPC) is a joint project between the United Nations Development Programme and the Brazilian Government to promote South-South Cooperation on applied poverty research. It specializes in analyzing poverty and inequality and offering research-based policy recommendations on how to reduce them. IPC is directly linked to the Poverty Group of the Bureau for Development Policy, UNDP and the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea), which does research for the Brazilian Government.
