a) Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN)
CIESIN was established in 1989 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization to provide information that would help scientists, decision-makers, and the public better understand their changing world. Its various interactive resources and databases contain extensive information on desertification.

b) EarthAction Network
The EarthAction Network was launched at the Earth Summit in June, 1992 by a group of activists from all continents. Its purpose is to help create world-wide public pressure on behalf of a more just, peaceful and sustainable world. Their "Protect the Soil: Protect your Future" project supports preservation and restoration of South Africa's land.

c) ELDIS Project
Eldis is a gateway to online information on development or the environment, focusing on countries of the South. Eldis makes a qualitative selection of materials and structures it for easy access. In this context it also offers a guide on desertification related information.

d) Environmental News Network (ENN)
ENN delivers daily news on environmental issues. Articles on desertification are easily found using the search function.


e ) International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED)
The Drylands Programme of IIED aims to contribute towards more effective and equitable management of natural resources in the arid and semi-arid regions of Africa. The IIED presents itself in the internet with information about offices and staff, publications and networking information and collaborative research programmes.


f ) The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT)
KIT (Royal Tropical Institute) is a knowledge institute in the Netherlands working internationally in the field of development studies. KIT focuses on four themes for which they compose special information products,such as CD-Rom's, databases and resource books. These are sexual and reproductive health, hiv/aids, gender and women and lastly agriculture and environment.

g) National Drought Mitigation Center
The National Drought Mitigation Center helps people and institutions develop and implement measures to reduce societal vulnerability to drought. The NDMC stresses preparation and risk management rather than crisis management. The site contains extensive information on drought watch and science, climatology, mitigation and impacts of drought.

h) Drought monitoring & crop yield forecasting
Monitoring & Early Warning website that offers synoptic, objective, near real time and validated data on radiation, rainfall, actual evapotranspiration, drought and desertification indices; crop yield forecasts .
