Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States consist of 34 countries and more than 400 million people.
While the region has moved toward democracy during the past two decades, it has also experienced a number of violent conflicts and political and social transitions. UNDP work in the region includes: small arms control, conflict prevention, promoting women's security and rule of law, and assessing and responding to disasters.
