StatebuildingIn the immediate aftermath of a crisis, assisting national stakeholders to gain control of their recovery process is paramount. Transitional support to National Authorities In countries recovering from crisis, UNDP helps national authorities to deliver essential public services and establish basic security. Bridging volatile transition periods requires budgetary and operational support, rehabilitation of essential infrastructure, urgently needed public services, and institutional capacity-building. The objective is to create the conditions, for national authorities to gain control of their recovery process as quickly as possible. Statebuilding initiative As part of its work on transitional governance, UNDP has developed a two-year initiative on state building with various partners, including the World Bank and USAID. Statebuilding activities seek to ensure that states emerging from crisis are able to provide services effectively, maintain political stability and peace through inclusive and participatory political processes and are accountable to the populations.UNDP and its partners have scheduled a series of workshops and a regional conference on statebuilding to draw on the knowledge of leading reformers and expert practitioners. An evaluation of early statebuilding support in post-conflict environments is planned to focus on (re)establishing basic state structures and institutions. It will also provide recommendations on how to prioritize support in the first 30 days, six months and one year after a conflict.
