Capacity DevelopmentCapacity Development | Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction | Risk Identification and Assessment | Climate Change PURPOSE The Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI) was conceived in 2007 as a resource within the UN/International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) to increase capacity development for disaster risk reduction (DRR) at the global, regional and local levels. In support of the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), the outcome document from the World Conference on Disaster Reduction, 2005, Kobe, Japan, CADRI promotes the exchange of ideas and experiences on capacity development for disaster risk reduction. It is designed to advance knowledge and skills to make capacity development a cross-cutting activity for disaster risk reduction. CADRI builds on the UN Disaster Management Training Programme, 1990-2006, which trained UN, government and civil society professionals and organizations. CADRI is a joint programme of the United Nations Development, the ISDR Secretariat, and the United Nations’ Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. These three organizations reflect the broader dimensions of disaster risk reduction including advocacy, policy development, governance issues, preparedness and recovery. PRIORITIES CADRI’s work is organized around three main areas:
