Immediate crisis response in action—Recent advisor deployments
- In February 2008, two immediate crisis response advisors were deployed to the country office in Cameroon to help the Resident Coordinator facilitate the UN country team’s response to the sudden influx of Chadian refugees in the north. They also helped adapt UNDP's crisis prevention and recovery programming needs to the changing situation in Cameroon.
- In February 2008, another immediate crisis response mission took place to support the UNDP country office in Chad to assess the logistical, administrative and financial needs to rebuild the destroyed UNDP service center and country office in N’Djamena. The mission resulted in a road map for getting the office back on track.
- In 2007, immediate crisis response advisors were deployed to assist four countries. In Bangladesh, following cyclone Sidr, two advisors assisted with UN coordination and communications: supporting the development of a government action plan and communications strategy; supporting the Resident Coordinator in facilitating and developing guidance notes; supporting the development of the Government Emergency Response and Recovery Action Plan; and helping develop the UNDP component for a Central Emergency Response Fund appeal. In Liberia, an advisor assisted the country office with procurement support after a string of natural disasters. Following a tsunami in the Solomon Islands, two advisors were sent to: support the government's early recovery activities and develop a recovery action plan; coordinate the damage and needs assessments of all sectors with line ministries; and identify opportunities for UNDP recovery programming. And in Sudan, two advisors were sent to support the contingency planning for the potential expansion of UNDP’s support to Darfur should peace prevail.
