Building capacity for climate risk management in the Caribbean
With the acceleration of global climate change and the vulnerability of Caribbean countries, the increasing risk posed by a range of natural and environmental hazards remains one of the Caribbean region’s most critical unresolved development problems. In this context, a preparatory process for a regional initiative was undertaken in 2002 by the UNDP’s Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery (BCPR) and the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (RBLAC). The process included background research and a high-level forum of experts.

Cluster munitions
The Lima Conference on Cluster Munitions, held in May 2007, was the second step towards a process that could lead to an international treaty on cluster munitions that cause unacceptable harm to civilians. A total of 68 states participated in the Lima conference, including 28 states that were not present at the first conference on Cluster Munitions held in Oslo, Norway, in February 2007. Increased participation arose from Africa, the Americas, and Asia and Pacific, with the support of the UNDP and Norwegian Government’s sponsorship programme. Read more...
