Nicaragua
is vulnerable to natural disasters due to its geographical location
and economic and social conditions. The high levels of inequality
translate in to poverty, marginalisation, and social exclusion.
Nicaragua suffers from the threat of earthquakes, tsunamis,
hurricanes, tropical storms, landslides, droughts, and forest
fires. The frequency and magnitude of these phenomena are magnified
by the inability to manage the development process. Improper
land planning, inadequate agricultural practices, and uncontrolled
exploitation of natural resources are all examples of further
hindrances that contribute to the problems faced by Nicaragua.
